Sharp new ŠKODA Octavia Estate unveiled

This completely new car sets records for interior space and gives mid-class quality for the price of a compact estate.

The new ŠKODA Octavia Estate will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor show from 5 – 17 March 2013. Also being unveiled is the new Octavia Estate 4×4, which has newly developed all-wheel drive and fifth generation Haldex clutch.

Class-leading space

The new Octavia Estate is significantly bigger than the outgoing model; it is 9cm longer, 4.5cm wider and the wheelbase is stretched by 11cm.

Most impressive is the space for rear-seat passengers. Dr Frank Welsch, ŠKODA board member for technical development, said: “Our ŠKODA Octavia Estate offers rear-seat passengers lots of legroom: 73mm in front of the knees. This is the highest in its segment. At 610 litres, the size of the boot sets a new record for its class.”

Fold the rear seats down and the boot space increases to a gargantuan 1,740 litres: more water than a camel can drink in eight days.

Safety systems & clever features

Like the new Octavia Hatch, the Estate can be configured with an automatic post-crash brake system, front assist with city emergency braking, fatigue detection and lane assist. Up to nine airbags provide outstanding protection for the driver and passengers.

The Octavia Estate has lots of typically clever ŠKODA design features. The double-sided boot floor mat means you can switch between a dog-friendly wipe-clean surface and grippy carpeted side at the drop of a hat. The Octavia Estate has ŠKODA’s usual complement of boot nets, bag hooks, multimedia device holders and bottle holders, plus handy features including a rear waste bin, a warning vest holder under the driver’s seat, a coat rack and a remote fold-down function for the rear-seat backrest. Like the Rapid, it also features an ice scraper with built-in magnifying glass in the fuel filler flap.
Newly-developed engines

Two petrol and two diesel engines will be available for the new Octavia Estate when it launches in the UK. A GreenLine version is set to offer fuel consumption of just 83.1mpg and CO2 emissions of only 89g/km.
